BOMI GROUP ENLARGES ITS HORIZONS AND ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF THE VERCESI GROUP

A Top Player in the pharmaceutical supply chain field is just born

Bomi Group, a leading multinational company in the field of integrated logistics serving the Healthcare sector is pleased to announce the acquisition of Vercesi Group, a historical Italian company specialized in the international temperature-controlled transportation and storage of pharmaceutical, diagnostic and biomedical products, including raw materials and finished products.

Thanks to this ambitious operation Bomi Group consolidates its leadership position in the European market for pharma transport, integrating to its Bomi Health Carrier network dedicated to last mile temperature-controlled deliveries, a strong and solid business unit dedicated to national and international FTL/LTL transport solutions.

Paola Vercesi will continue to hold the role of CEO of the company and will lead the new Business Unit with the aim of establishing strong synergies within the Bomi Group. Stefano Camurri, Head of Italy & France at Bomi Group, will be the Executive Chairman.

With more than 60 years of history in the temperature controlled transport sector and in the storage of pharmaceutical products and derivatives, and a significant position in the Healthcare transport sector in Europe, Vercesi Group has successfully consolidated over the years a fleet of 120 road tractors for the towing of semi-trailers equipped with refrigeration units and 135 active temperature controlled semi-trailers: the fleet, constantly renewed to ensure low CO2 emissions in compliance with the environmental sustainability requirements of the company, is equipped with anti-robbery satellite protection, GPS tracking, real time temperature recording and printing.

Among the services offered there are also airport operations for airlines and handling agents in all European airports, thus integrating the freight forwarding services already offered by Bomi Group with the newly created Bomi Health Forwarding Business Unit.

The continuous commitment has allowed the company to grow from a family business to an international group with a brand that has become synonymous of safe transport of temperature-sensitive goods: the exponential growth of the fleet has made possible the expansion of transport services from Italy throughout Europe, in particular Germany, France, and Benelux.

The new “Green Thermo Park” of the Vercesi Group, the main hub on the Italian territory, was recently inaugurated and is located on a total area of 85.000 sqm in Pozzuolo Martesana, at about 20 km from Milan, 18 km from Linate Airport and in a strategic position of junction of the main highways. The covered area of 27.500 sqm is entirely at controlled temperature +15+25°C of which about 3,000 sqm are at +2+8 °C, an area of 400 pallet spaces dedicated to products at temperature < -25 °C and an area reserved for ADR dangerous goods. Outside there are more than 25,000 sqm of parking with 24/7 video surveillance for trucks with 250 TIR spaces.

The warehouse is GMP and GDP certified and authorized for the storage and distribution of human medicinal products, both finished and active ingredients, for veterinary medicines and active ingredients and food supplements. Vercesi Group is also ISO 9001:2015, TAPA TSR – level 1 e TAPA FSR – level A certified.

Today, the company has more than 250 customers in its portfolio, including some important multinationals leaders in the production of pharmaceutical products but also small and medium-sized companies often with high specificities.

The acquisition of Vercesi Group by Bomi Group represents a real turning point for the company and allows the consolidation of a unique Top Player able to offer integrated vertical solutions for the supply chain of the pharmaceutical sector. Vercesi Group’s experience in international FTL storage and transportation complements and completes the offer of Bomi Group, historically dedicated to storage, remanufacturing and last mile delivery of Healthcare products and which in the last 6 months has seen the birth of two new BUs dedicated to the management of high technology devices (Bomi Health Tech) and global forwarding (Bomi Health Forwarding).

Andrea Nardocci, Chief M&A Officer of Bomi Group, remarks: “With the acquisition of the Vercesi Group we are moving a crucial step in the consolidation of our role as a partner dedicated to the supply chain of the Healthcare sector: important synergies will be generated, and customers will benefit from integrated, flexible and secure solutions“.

Marco Ruini, CEO of Bomi Group, adds; “The market we operate in requires specific skills and an integrated value proposition to manage the challenges of increasing complexity and long-term sustainability. We welcome Vercesi in the belief that the combination of our experiences will contribute to the construction of a truly unique offer, which can give more and more substance to the common ambition of bringing the patient at the center of the Health Value Chain”.

Paola Vercesi, CEO of Vercesi Group, comments: “The awareness of having achieved the maximum possible result with our own strength has matured in us. One option was to stay as we are, the alternative was to make a choice of development looking to the future. In the Bomi Group we see an international partner that carries out complementary activities that can be integrated with ours. I thank our team for the commitment with which they carry out their duties every day and we are convinced that they will face this new challenge with enthusiasm“.
